Bushenyi Saccos protest release of debtors

The heads of various Saccos in Bushenyi district have threatened to resort to mob justice as the only means of collecting their money from debtors.
They made this remark yesterday during a demonstrating against the release of debtors, a thing they say has become a habit for the courts.

In particular, they accuses the Principal Judge, Yorokamu Bamwine of continuously releasing their debtors from prison without their knowledge leading to losses in their institutions.

Later, they walked to the office of the RDC seeking for his intervention in the matter but he was not a available.

The demonstrators then marched to the Grade One Magistrate  court premises demanding to meet the judge who they claimed was set to release some of the debtors that had been brought to court.

They however met resistance from the guard but later overpowered him and walked to the corridors of the court premises. They were then driven out by the police.

The managers now say they are being left with no option but to resort to mob justice.

“The court bailiffs heard about the news and are bitter. They accuse court of not valuing their work yet they are charged exorbitant fees to get licensed,” said Peter Tumuhumbise, the head of the Butuuro sacco.
Micheal Kasenene, an advocate with Paul Tusubiira and Company Advocates said the principal judge being a custodian  of the law needed to cite sections of the law that he is using to issues such directives.
